Perhaps it was because he was sleepy that he seemed more dependent on Mother than usual. The increased dependency might be due to the two weeks he had just spent at his Grandmother's house in Pennsylvania (the first week without his Mother; the second with her. Jenny was there both weeks) The next morning however, he was his lively self! In fact, he was quite all right after his mother went to the store and he was more awake. Some experiences from the weeks in PA are felt in the two sessions. Peter had fallen and got a black eye and commented on it while playing. He also learned (from his young uncle, his mother says) to say "christ" although he doesn't seem to have learned it in connection with any well-defined state of affairs. It comes up he's working on something whether or not he seems frustrated. Peter seemed more interested in talking about non-immediate (that is non-action tied) aspects of experience. For example, while playing with the nesting barrels, he would pause to talk about the tape recorder or the fact that Mother had gone shopping. He had a bad cold and his pronunciation was further affected during the afternoon session by the piece of gum Mother had given him. One further remnant of Peter's experience at Grandmother's house was his new skill with the nesting barrels. His grandmother had given him some and he had had much practice. The set his grandmother gave him was all of the same color.
